Question regarding variant lettering

I have a question regarding the letters assigned to variants in the Core. It looks live most titles with variants use a single alphabetical sequence - Cover A, B, C, etc. I see that some companies like to group covers together with the same letter for variants with the same art, and an additional letter or letters for the type of variant. For instance, A for standard, AV for Virgin variant of the A cover, AN for Naughty variant of the A cover, etc.

Should we use the publisher’s lettering scheme in these cases, or stick to the single sequence?

Hi, thank you for posting. Happy to answer this for you. We use the barcode as a guideline for this. Like you said the publishers use different, so we use the end of the barcodes as they go up.

A: 00111
B: 00121
C: 00131
D: 00112 (2nd Printing)

This way it’s consistent with all the publishers

Thank you. I’m asking mostly for publisher-direct and crowdfunded comics, which typically don’t have a UPC code to reference. Sounds like the single sequence is still the way to go, though.
