Recording Date

Hello! Under details, there is a field for “Recording date”. This should really be a range of dates, rather than a specific date. Rarely are records recorded on a specific date (except for live albums), but typically during a period, f.ex something like 02.1974 - 04.1974. This is certainly not a pressing issue, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Thank you!

I’ve taken note of your idea here (it seems it has been suggested once or twice for the old Windows version!).

For now you could also just enter 00/00/2007 or just 2007 depending on your device, and have it in the year 2007. Or maybe the “end date” (you know until we (if we) add such an extra field to create a range).

Hello again! Absolutely. That is a perfectly viable solution, and using the end date is also the solution I am currently using. Like I said, this is certainly not a crucial or pressing issue, but rather just something I thought I would suggest as a possible improvement. Anyway, thank you for your reply, and may I just say that I really appreciate all the hard work that must have gone into this software. It is, by far, the best (and most convenient) solution I have found. Perfect for quickly adding a new record and equally perfect if one wants a more detailed entry. Love it!

The suggestion of a range for recording date keeps occupying brain cells since reading your post, @redhammer80. I like capturing details like recording studio(s) or venues along with recording dates. Like you and @CLZ_AJ, I typically use the ending/last session date for the Recording Date field and use the Notes field to add details that are of particular interest to me.

Another place that a date range could be helpful is in the Composition window for classical pieces. Maybe this is insignificant minutiae, but as I research the history of a work, I love using MuC as the vessel to hold discoveries as they relate to the recording in my library. Again, the Notes field is a workaround.

I will concede that by including research in the Notes field the information will show on screen in most of the Detail View Templates. Like you, redhammer80, I am very grateful for the work of Team CLZ for making amazing tools for us collectors AND for actively supporting us and their products.

First of all I’ll admit that I am a bit “anal”, or maybe even downright compulsive (?) when it comes to my collection, so getting in as many details as I can, really ticks a few boxes. Then again, as previously stated, this is not a huge deal, especially with good workarounds. But I am glad to hear I am not the only one it appeals to! Thanks a bunch for your input @docjavadude Much appreciated.

Ah, I hadn’t considered composition, but that makes a lot of sense to me. Another way to make an already great piece of software even better!
