Does anybody know what these are? I have them on quite a few of my bronze-age Marvel’s in particular. Are they a manufacturing defect caused by rollers during printing? They’re usually straight, L-R and often on the upper cover, though I have seen them in the middle and also on the lower cover. One comic had all three.
I originally thought they were indents from something being written on that was placed above the comic. But they’re too consistent across multiple issues, span the full cover width from spine to edge, and never show any letter or word that can truly be discerned as such. I’m thinking they’re a defect.
