Run Time & Genre not showing up when adding a movies

I have been adding movies by IMDb number. It’s been going smoothly until this evening when suddenly a batch (6) movies did not have their Running Time nor any Genre data. I tried closing Movie Collector and re-starting it but that didn’t help

I was able to manually enter the correct (IMDb) values into the appropriate fields.

All of the other data seems to be present… did I accidentally click something and change a parameter?

thanks

You might’ve changed something indeed, as adding by title (or IMDb number) still gives all the fields for us here. I take it that for you it doesn’t matter using the IMDb tab or Title tab?

In any case: In the main screen, click “Tools > Options”. Then click on “Data and Images”.
Then click the button “Download settings for data and images” to change settings for which field-information should/should not be downloaded or updated.

Check Genre and Runtime there.

Also check menu Tools > Pre-Fill settings and check that you do NOT have genre/runtime there. As that will overwrite whatever you get from Core.

Thanks for the quick reply :grinning:

  1. No, it makes no difference whether I use the Title or IMDb tab
  2. Genre and Runtime were already checked with “Update empty fields only”. I changed them both to “Replace current data”. Actually, I tried both ways a couple of times… it made no difference. Still no Runtime or Genre.

BTW, should I Close and Restart the program after making these changes? I didn’t…

  1. I checked Tools>Pre-Fill settings and NOTHING above the Personal bar is checked there

FYI one of the movies that I`ve been testing with is IMDb - tt0407887

------EDIT --------
I just tried again with tt0407887 and noticed that the second section of the Add Movies box shows ( USA / English / Color / 2006 )

When I tried with a movie that I had successfully downloaded yesterday (tt0368008), that area was filled in with:

USA / English / Color / 129 mins 2006
Drama, Science Fiction, Thriller, Mystery

I then tried with a third movie, that had failed, but I had manually entered the Runtime and Genres from IMDb. It also showed that area as blank, NOT the data that I had entered.

I know that this is confusing but I THINK that this is telling me that that area of the Add screen is being filled in by data transmitted from CORE not from the record on my PC. In other words… no data

---------ANOTHER EDIT--------

I REALLY do not understand what’s going on… I decided to carry on entering movies and updating the data manually… not that big a deal
Anyways, I carried on with a few 2007 movies and guess what… THEY WORKED PERFECTLY

For 2: you’re looking at the UPDATE column, you have to look at the DOWNLOAD column. But it seems you’re already good to go

Just to be clear:
In the ADD MOVIES screen you ONLY see data from Core.
in your main screen you see data from your own collection, downloaded from core.

For tt0407887 we were missing the runtime and genre.
Can you see during adding if you have more movies that are missing runtime and genre? I think there might be something wrong in our Core online database.

Yes, by trial and error I deduced that ADD MOVIES showed CORE

It’s amazing, but I tried FIVE 2006 movies and they ALL failed… tt0317919, tt0382625, tt0407887, tt0401855 and tt0376994

-----EDIT------

Well, I just tried FOUR 2007 movies and they ALL failed… tt0465234, tt0822854, tt0413300 and tt0440963

Do you want me to keep reporting these? It seems like you have a MAJOR flaw in your database and one of your programmers should be able to identify / FIX the problem.

We found a bug indeed and are working on it. The ones you mentioned have been fixed.

I’ll keep you updated.

Please do not add through IMDb until I post back here. We’re implementing a fix so all will be good. Could be tomorrow morning, but I will post back here asap!

@OldIslander2 the bug where it wouldn’t download runtimes/genres has been fixed, feel free to add some more movies and check it. Thanks for reporting this problem.
