Hi,
I am a long-time convert to the “Music Collector” App on my desktop & very much appreciate your software’s abilities!
You have now convinced me that I should move to a Web-based format
BUT I think that I have a problem …
I rely on a field called “Location” to physically find where I have stored sections of my large CD collection
I am under the impression that “Location” is a “User Defined Field” - so would not be available when using the Web based app
Am I correct??
I am about to renew my subscription, so how should I proceed?
Your advice would be much appreciated!
RickW
Hi @RickW sounds great that you’re interested in moving to CLZ Music Web.
Location is a standard field in Music Collector and will sync with CLZ Cloud (unless you’ve created a second Location field, but I wouldn’t imagine you’d forget that.
The regular Location field is bottom left on the edit screen:
I would recommend using menu CLZ Cloud > Synchronize, and then just start a free triel of 7 days for CLZ Music Web to see if you like it. That said I see you already tried the trial back in June of this year. Would you like to just switch now or would you rather try it out again first?
Thanks for your VERY rapid response
YES … I will take the plunge & hope to be welcomed back into the “Inner Sanctum”!
I would prefer a 7 day trial just so that I can get my feet wet first
BTW, I presume that the CLZ scanner will still function as I find this a fantastic tool
I really rely on your software to keep me organised with a large CD collection that I actively utilise
I’ve just added 7 free trial days for your account.
To begin just use menu CLZ Cloud > Synchronize.
Then go here to log in and try out CLZ Music Web:
Log in to find your data and try it.
CLZ Scanner of course also works in CLZ Web
I have thoroughly checked out the new CLZ Cloud Music Collector and am happy to “See the Light” and convert (And continue with my subscription)
I still think that the desktop version is a REALLY GOOD piece of software & have always been very appreciative of its features!
A couple of questions …
(1) Recently I have been purchasing CD’s on the Internet as downloads, & not as physical CD’s
Your desktop version would let me input details directly from my laptop
I understand that I can no longer achieve this with the Cloud version??
I guess that manual input is now the way to proceed with these files?
(2) Is there an option to back-up all the Cloud data to my laptop regularly?
(There will surely more “CLOUDSTRIKE” like events in the future!)
Thanks for producing and supporting such top-class software
Good to hear you’re switching to CLZ Music Web.
The web version can not scan files on your computer and create an album based on it. But if you can find the internet purchased album on Discogs.com you should be able to get a Catalog number, which you can use in the Add Albums screen and find your album. Or find the physical release the regular way (artist/title) and add it, and just edit the album and change the format. That will save you some time. That’s what I would do (I barely ever need to use the “manual input”).
As for backup, open the menu top left, and then scroll down and find Maintenance > Backup/Restore, then create a backup and you can download that. It is in a format that can be read by our CLZ Music web app.
If you need to export to something readable for your computer, you could export to CSV or TXT (under import/export) or PDF (that’s under Tools)
