Can somebody please remind me how to navigate to the Shelf Location field. I’ve used this a million times, but I’m now experiencing a senior moment & cant remember how to get there.
I have just successfully transferred my Music Collector from a Windows 10 machine to a Win dows 11 machine.
However, on the Windows 10 machine I had a field i called Shelf Location. Since I have acollection of over 1500 CDs, this field was invaluable. What am I doing wrong? How do I get this column of vital info back onto Windows 11
There’s a field called Location that is bottom left of the front page in the Edit window or have you created a User Defined Field. in which case look for it under the fifth tab
Thanx,Dancing Monk I’ve tried that, but nothing seems to happen. What I’m expecting to happen is the appearance of a custom designed field named “Shelf Location” along side the other columns in my database. just as it appeared in my Windows 10 version. It doesnt. What am I doing wrong?
There is no field called “Shelf Location” so either you renamed one of the built-in fields, in which case you need to determine which field it was, and rename it again. OR, and this seems to be the most likely from your description, you created a custom field (a UDF - User Defined Field) in the User Defined Tab.
In this case you will need to get help from the Clz team, who can explain to you the steps you need to take to make sure that not merely your data, but also all your settings, are transferred to the new computer.
So you moved from 1 machine to another.
And it seems you’re missing a field called “Shelf Location”.
Such a field does not exist in Music Collector.
(Location does, but it seems you mention that the data is not in that field?)
If the data is not in there, since that field does not exist in Music Collector, it’s safe to assume you created a “User Defined Field” (your own field) through Tools > User Defined Fields in the past.
Now:
How did you “move to the new computer”? Did you use “sync with CLZ Cloud” ? If so, User Defined Field does not sync through CLZ Cloud - meaning that data will not have synced.
If you need User Defined Field data on your new computer, then you need to use a different “transfer method”.
Do you still have the old computer? If so, follow the instructions from the page below to get all User Defined Field data to your new computer:
This method will move all data, including your user defined fields, over.
Thanks to all for your help on this issue
Just to clarify,
I have just moved my Music Collector account from a Windows 10 machine to Windows 11 machine according to your guidelines in “Windows to Windows”-Music Collector.
Everything transferred well apart from a “User Defined Field” that I called “Shelf Location”. Although this field continues to exist on my Windows 10 machine, I was unable to transfer it with my other database entries to Windows 11. I have tried thie 'Windows to Windows" procedure twice with the same result.
Although I now have no memory of creating this user defined field in the dim & distant past on my Windows 10 machine, this field is invaluable to me and enables me to locate any CD from my collection anywhere in my home.
Can you open the Windows 10 old Music Collector version, and locate the Shelf Location field? Perhaps even post a screenshot of it in the Edit Album screen there so I can see which field/where you’ve been adding this information?
Thank you for your reply.
How I navigate to Shelf location in my databases(I have 3), Is to do the following:
Right click any album in the database>Edit Album>Tracks>Right Click the CD title>Click on Edit in the drop down menu>Details/Personal tab. This gives access-at least in my databases -to the Shelf Location field enabling me to give a unique location for everyCD.
This access is available to me in my Windows11 version & my Windows 10 Version, but the shelf location field does not appear in the columns of each of my databases. in my new Windows 11 version.
It seems to me that I’ve been with Music Collector since Jurassic times, so how precisely this arrangement for Shelf Location came about is now lost in the mists of time.
I’d be grateful however for any help.
Thanks for your reply. I understand how you got to it, but I still can’t be sure if you just renamed any old field or added a field. I can’t deduct it with 100% certainty from your text.
Sorry, but I really really need some screenshots here.
So on the old Windows version, please just show me, in your edit disc screen that exact field.
If you don’t know how to make a screenshot, here’s a page that explains how to:
Thanks for your reply.
Here’s an image of the edit screen on which Shelf Location appears. In my databases, this screen appears in the windows 11 version & the windows 10 version.
Thanks
