I would like to list multiple locations and have it searchable for a single movie entry. For example: Dirty Harry is a 4k disc in Binder 1, and I have digital version via Apple. I’d like to see both locations in a single entry without having to have a duplicate entry, 1 for physical and 1 for digital. And, I’d like to be able to search by either of the 2 locations. Can this be done?
I just replied to you by email (I think you sent us the same question via email, and also here), but I will copy my reply here too:
It is not possible to add more than one location to a movie - but you can add multiple formats to a movie.
So you can edit a movie, and look for the Format field. Then, on top of 4K, add “Digital”.
You can click the Folder button top left, and then group by “Format” and see all your movies marked Digital in 1 folder.
(I’m not sure what you meant by having the locations “searchable” - do you often look for “Binder 1” and then see which movies are inside?)
Thanks very much for the reply. I have around 4000 discs that are in case logic binders. Many of the movies are also digital on Apple or Fandango for example, and some movies are exclusively digital on such services. My goal for searching is to easily determine where the movie is located to view it. So, let say I want to watch Dirty Harry which is only in a digital format. I’d search for it in the app, and see its location is on Fandango only. Or I’d like to see which movies are located only in my Apple account.
The solution you’ve provided comes close to what I was envisioning and I’ll give it a try for sure. I have been a long time user of your application from way back and it really is an excellent product worth the subscription price for all the support and updates you are constantly working on. Thanks again for the advice!
Good to hear that.
I got confused because you said this:
And, I’d like to be able to search by either of the 2 locations.
For me that means you want to search in a location, to find a movie.
But the other way around (you find a movie in your app, then you see "where it is (in binder 2 and also Fandango)). Which works with my proposed solution!
You could also create a new Location type of custom field to track your locations. The “Multi-Value Pick List” is probably the type you’d want. That way, you can add multiple locations to a single entry. Then you can filter on the new location field and the Format field at the same time.
