Some games had multiple platforms on one tape

In the 8-bit computer era, it was not uncommon for games (particularly on budget labels) to have a copy of the game for one platform on one side of the cassette, and for another platform on the other side.

An example is the Flippy Flippy series from Mastertronic. These had ZX Spectrum on one side and Amstrad CPC on the other side. 28 such games are listed here: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/list?group_id=487

Currently El Cid, barcode 5012967220082 is listed as an Amstrad CPC game in Core. But this is incorrect, it is a dual format ZX Spectrum / Amstrad CPC game.

It therefore needs to be possible to add both platforms to one entry, or alternatively in addition to the “ZX Spectrum” and “Amstrad CPC” platforms, maybe there needs to be a third “ZX Spectrum / Amstrad CPC Dual Format” platform.

Or do you have another idea as to how to handle these sort of games?

Hi

Are there any suggestions as to how to deal with these sort of games?

My only thinking is for me to create a new platform e.g. “ZX Spectrum / Amstrad” in my local version of the tool. But I’d rather be consistent with Core so that scanning such games brought up the correct details. What is clear at the moment is that Core is incorrect for such games, in that scanning one of these titles allocates it to only one of the multiple platforms.

Any ideas as to which way you are likely to go to address this would be appreciated, and if it needs changes to your back-end code, what the likely timescales would be.

If it’s something where you will have a solution fairly quickly, then I’ll put my copies of the games to one side and add them when I have gone through the rest of my collection. If there isn’t likely to be a solution in Core in the near future, then I’ll just do something locally.

Thanks!

Steve

Hi Steve,

It is not possible to create a dual platform for these games.
Manually adjusting these games in your local database is the best option.
