I would like to know how many unique titles I have in my collection, but I can’t seem to find anything that will help me sort that way.
I would also like to know if there was a way to sort out or hide duplicates.
The Mobile Apps are lightweight - low cost, low function - so it is not surprising that the feature you are looking for is missing.
There are two types of solution, using either CLZ Cloud or CLZ Web. CLZ Web is a paid for product, which is identical to CLZ Cloud, but with the addition of editing functionality.
-
CLZ Cloud: Sync your collection with Cloud, then View the collection in Cloud. In Cloud - export the necessary parts of your collection to CSV, then load this file into a spreadsheet, and use its fuctionality to find duplicates. Having identified the duplicates they can be manually removed from the Mobile App. This solution is fiddly, but is free and can be run as often as you like
-
CLZ Web: As above, sync your collection with Cloud. Now go into your CLZ Account page (https://my.clz.com, which shows the status of your subscriptions) and look for CLZ Web. You should see Trial and Buy Now buttons. Select Trial, and you can use the full functionality of CLZ Web, including Duplicate processing, so you can clean up your collection. You need to re-sync to see your changes in the mobile app. This is also free.
-
If you need to use CLZ Web after your 7-day trial has expired, for example because you have created more duplicates, then from the account page, select Pay Monthly and Buy Now. As long as you cancel before the month is up, you will only be charged for one month. You can repeat this as often as you like, eg once every 6 months.
Of course, once you have used CLZ Web, you may find it a better solution for you than Mobile, and so you should take out an annual subscription.
Thanks for the detailed breakdown, Steve, but I don’t think that quite solves our problem. I think cow and I were wondering if there was a way to mark or hide duplicates in a way where they would still be in our collection, but could be hidden or filtered out easily.
For example, you can filter your movies via the folder system to look at movies with a specific actor or director, but it will show all duplicate copies in your collection. I want all of my duplicates logged because they are usually different editions, but it skews the numbers when I’m trying to look at how many different movies star Ethan Hawke when I own three copies of Boyhood lol.
I think we were both wondering if there was a button anywhere that could toggle duplicates to hide them. Another workaround I’ve been thinking about is making an entire new collection that just omits any duplicates, but that could feel a little cumbersome when adding new titles as I would have to add them to both collections every time. I already do this with TV shows, but that’s not a big hassle since there’s no crossover between the two collections.
Sorry, I misunderstood.
Once you have identified the duplicates, then all you have to do is mark them up in some way. As there are no User fields that could be employed for this purpose, you would have to make use of some other field. In my collection I have no interest in the DVD Region or the Packaging, so I use these fields for my own purposes.
This means you could create a folder view, with one folder containg “normal” movies, and the other containing duplicates.
Once you start thinking along these lines you see lots of other possibilities, eg marking Duplicates as “For Sale”, for example. All of this is a bit of a kludge, but I think that this is the best you can achieve at the moment.
Hopefully one day User Fields will be added. They exist in the Windows product, and are promised for the Web product, but I don’t know if they will appear in the Mobile products.
Try putting your duplicates in a separate collection. Once done easy to toggle between them.
