Strange issue with cover art

Hello all,

Thanks CLZ team for the great software and web/mobile services. Long-time user here, first-time poster.

I have the following setup:

  • Music and Movie Collector on my PC, where I do most of my adding and editing
  • Music and Movies mobile apps on my Android, which I use to update smaller things and look up stuff when I’m out and about

I have an issue where if I update an entry (any data) in the Music mobile app, the next time I open my desktop software my larger custom cover art (say 1000x1000 or 1280x1280, “Cover Art.jpg”) is overwritten and re-named automatically by, I suspect, the mobile app’s smaller version (always 640x640, “ArtistNameAlbumNameSomeRandomCharacters.jpg”).

Some notes:

  • I of course have the automatic sync between the cloud and my collection On
  • This doesn’t happen on all, but most of my 10 000+ items. For some reason, in most of my newer entries (say from the last few months) the image isn’t written over
  • The cover art is set as “Custom Image” in both the mobile app and the desktop software

I’ve tried pretty much everything I can think of to fix this (including un- and reinstalling everything both on PC and on mobile), outside of clearing my cloud altogether.

Any suggestions on what I should try next?

Big thanks in advance for your help.

My suggestion would be to clear Cloud altogether.
What I would do is
(1) disable auto sync
(2) check that the Windows database is as you want it. If not do some manual syncs.
(3) Recommended: Back up the Windows database and images
(4) Recommended: Delete everything from your mobile app
(5) Sync from Windows to Cloud
(6) Sync from Cloud to mobile.
(7) Re-enable autosync if everything seems ok.

Clearing Cloud seems dramatic, but I have done it a few times to solve paticular issues. Apart from the time/bandwidth required for the sync to run, there are no issues. Indeed, for this type of problem, clearing Cloud would be my first action, rather than a last resort.

If the problems persist, then you should report on a few specfific records so that the Clz team can track down the faults

Hey Steve,

Excellent, thank you very much for the tips and the step-by-step guide!

So far I’ve been able to skate by on and mitigate issues with smaller adjustments. Clearing the cloud and reupdating it has seemed like a big hassle, so I’ve avoided it.

Encouraged by your experiences and help, I’ll try that next and report back.

Another tip: Don’t just check the “Custom Image Box” in windows.

I always download a random file then overwrite it with the image file I want to keep. If not, the cloud sees it as the original image even though it is checked been checked “Custom”.

I got tired of seeing all kinds of random sized covers and ones that I did not have on my PC’s Db. This solved it. Now I see exactly the same images on my pc, mobile and in the cloud.

Thanks a bunch Roy, that sounds like good advice as well. One less factor to cause potential conflicts when syncing.

Finally got a chance to run this whole process for both my Music and Movie Collector setups after a busy couple of weeks.

It seems like clearing the cloud indeed did the trick! Haven’t run into the odd cover art issue since.

Thanks again @stevej @roybo!
