Quite often the core takes as studios of a film the distributors of imdb
-
I see it as a flaw that the system or core takes too long texts as plots, usually from Wikipedia (perhaps the cause is the users who send to the core). Does the core only upload plots sent by users or does it have an automatic feed as well?
Yes, we automatically download/add the highest-ranked distributor from IMDB.
But you are free to replace these or add another company/studio/distributor yourself.
We hardly use user plots; we automatically add plots from IMDb, TMDB, Moviemeter, and Wikipedia. Most English plots come from the first two sources; Wikipedia is only used for French, Spanish, and German plots.

Sorry, but I think sometimes it’s highest Production Company, and another times the highest Distributor. I don’t know if the cases of Production company are “original” or corrections ???
In any case, the field was intended for studies.

I suggest filmaffinity.com for Spanish plots, for its longevity, reliability and wide use in the Spanish-speaking community. And the release titles for Spain are more reliable than those on IMDb, which sometimes confuses them with titles from Latin American countries.
Have you ever thought about using specific info on Eastern releases, such as the Hong Kong Movie Database: hkmdb.com ?
We have no plans to add additional sources, sorry about that, but of course, you are free to edit the data or add your own plots and studios if you disagree with what we have.
I never really payed attention to the Studios field, but today I looked into it a bit deeper. I wanted to see how many A24 movies I have. I needed to update some moves from Core to get the right Studio for those A24 movies. So far so good.
So I did some updates on random movies to see what is happening. I have the feeling the Studio is/feels incorrect in a lot of cases.
For example the movie “Fist of Legend (1994)”. It gets “Buena Vista Home Video” as Studio. I cannot imagine this is correct for a Hong Kong Golden Harvest movie. At IMDb I see this:
Buena Vista is the distributor for the VHS/DVD releases, not the “Studio”/Distributor of the movie itself.
So I was wondering what exactly “Studio” means or should mean. Why is it called Studio, when maybe “Distributor” is a better name? At Edition level we already have the Distributor for the specific edition. This sort of corresponds with the Distributors at IMDb.
In your response in November you state this:
Yes, we automatically download/add the highest-ranked distributor from IMDB.
It feels really weird to see Buena Vista (Disney?) at this Hong Kong movie
It is very unclear for me. Maybe also for other users? It gets an important spot below the movie cover. Yet I am unable to figure out what Studio should mean.
If Studio means Distributor, why are the production companies not part of Core? Looks like only 1 Distributor is pulled from somewhere, why not more than 1 in Core? The applications allow for more than 1 “Studio”.
I expected the Production Companies in the Studio field, not Distributors, because Distributors are different for each country (not 100% sure) and already have a place in the Edition data.
Can you explain what it should mean?
I see that this is an option CLZ chose to feed studio data into the core system, I don’t know if it’s due to a technical issue or something.
I’m clear that it only makes sense as information if it refers to the production companies (apart from their name indicating so). I personally always manually correct this information, even though it’s sometimes tedious.
Studio / Distributor / Production Company
The Internet uses these co-mingling and unfortunately CLZ / IMDB /BRDC / TMDB / TVDC and so many more borrow and steal from one another, so you get what you get.
We receive a long flat list with little information and select the highest ranked (US) company from it. That’s it, not always the company you personally want will be there, but you are free to adjust everything.
