I have a problem when trying to Synch with Cloud. I have 50 Cloud Changes (to be downloaded) and 300 Local Changes (to be uploaded).
This happened after I updated 350 (total) Directors in the folder.
When I Synch using the icon in the lower right or with the “Sych with CLZ Cloud” the 50 Cloud Changes download with Conflict Resolved. Then no action with the 300 to be uploaded. Eventually, I get the Timeout Error.
I have restarted the App and the phone several times with the same results.
As this was an exact issue I had in January 2024, I also tried leaving it in Auto-Synch (as was recommended previously) for extended time, with no positive results.
The Synch screen always goes back to the 300 and 50 numbers.
To investigate
I would like to know what exactly you did to the 350 director entries?
Perhaps if we do that on our side we might be able to reproduce the problem.
Also: how many devices (and which) do you use, and do you make edits on multiple devices/places?
As for a solution:
I think a complete resync might be in order here.
Can you tell me if the database on your mobile device is “the latest” ?
If it is here’s what you can do:
FIRST: make absolutely sure you have your latest data in your CLZ mobile app. Then continue with these steps:
Open the app menu, and choose Sync with CLZ Cloud to open the Sync screen.
At the bottom left, click the “Clear CLZ Cloud” button and confirm.
Now sync with CLZ Cloud to upload all your data to the CLZ Cloud again.
I understand that with over 12k movies it will take time, but I think it’s the only way
Thank you for the rapid response. The following answers to your questions are provided:
In the Director field I noticed some names not identical/similar to other entries. I conformed all the enties names to ensure a congruent format. For example: Moved the name middle initial directly the first name instead of at the beginning of the last name; moved Jr/Sr to the end of the last name instead of the beginning of the line; moved and split last name (van, von, del etc) to the beginning of the last name line. I plan on going through the other Folders and tidying up those Crew names too.
I have never entered a multitude of brand new entries so I am not sure if the same issue would apply to new fresh entries.
I only use my Samsung Galaxy Android to make any entries or changes. I use my laptop to view/edit any Cloud entries which is extremely rare. The mobile covers almost all my needs.
I do have the most recent database as well.
I will wait for a response before clearing the cloud.
So we are going some tests on this on our side, but for your side I do think that it would be good to perform the full resync. It might time out a couple of times, but it should go through eventually.
That said: I will ask you to wait a bit longer before doing this, or to make further changes.
I also want to ask you to hold off on making further changes.
Each change you make to a director or crew, will set ALL movies that use that person to “Custom Crew”
That means, a lot of changes, and a lot of custom casts
That means a big chunk of data being sent over per movie. It might be timing out on that.
Some more questions
I do agree that timing out is a bug, but, I’m curious and hope you can let me know: why are you moving the Jr/Sr to the end of the last name? Is it just a visual thing for you?
There was no real reason other than esthetics. I noticed some were one way, and others a different way - using the Jr/Sr example.
The same with the middle initial as well. Some were placed after the first name (logical) and others at the beginning of a last name.
No real reason other than to make everything uniform to me.
I also noticed its now down to 260 and 50 instead of 300 and 50.
I will do the Clear CLZ when you think its advisable.
Thanks for your reply. I think it might be better if we think of a way we can attack our complete cast/crew list to fix these differences, but that might be a bit harder too.
The fact that it went down to less is great too.
Please be aware that if you change 1 crew person name, that ALL movies that use that crew person will bet their entire crew list “marked as custom” - and this will change the size of the sync chunks and the time CLZ Web needs to process one of such movies significantly (especially in the thousands). (it’s true that the system should be able to handle that, but this is part of what you’re seeing here).
I therefor maybe think that a full resync will not do the trick as the total file that needs to go to CLZ Cloud will remain big and the cloud needs time to process it - and it might time out on that on certain times of the day. This is something we should work on and investigate of course.
I recommend to keep syncing, keep trying to get it through, and once it’s trough - perhaps leave this project for now.
Finally finishedcthe resynch successfully. It took time but eventually happened.
I would have never guessed that one name change/adjustment would affect each film (in my collection only Im assuming) that much. Multiply it with the numbers I have and instant problem.
Apologies for creating this self-inflicted dilemma.
Thanks for pointing things out. I will cease from my organizing for the sake of uniformity (although it will irritate me - lol)
Great, I’m happy to hear that the sync finally finished.
Yeah because the name is used for more films, it will update all those crew lists where that name is used and instantly mark the crew list as “custom” - so that affects a lot of films indeed.
I understand. If this is the biggest irritation in life it might be a good “biggest” to have
I’ve taken note of your situation though, perhaps we can do something about this in the future with regards to uniformity here.
I dod notice one anomaly in this emdeavor you might find curious:
It seems randomly, when I would make a name change to whatever Crew folder I worked with, every once in awhile I would somehoe get a download to the app updating the cover. Sometimes just front, sometimes both front and back.
This would rest the Crew name to what it was before I edited it.
No reason. No edits to the Covers. It just randomly happens. Odd…
That is odd indeed and should not happen. But we have seen in the past that if a movie was added with a movie poster, and not a front cover, it would sync up the poster as a “custom cover” - but for a change to be “downloaded” something has to have happened on the “other side” (like your laptop).
If you can find a sure-fire way to get this to happen I would love to hear about it and see if I can reproduce it on our side.
Thats what is odd. I exclusively use my ansroid to do everything in CLZ. Covers, additions, deletions etc..
I noticed it most prevalent when I single updated any member of the crew (before the cloud issue).
When I noticed it “download” the cover the update crew was back to the original. I deleted that crew member from ONLY that movie entry. Reentered the crew member, and tried the process again. Same thing. If that crew has multiple entries (producer) the entries all pass except that particular film. It has randomly happened with a few other updates.
I’m not sure how to “attack” this problem from my side as I can’t reproduce it right now.
Do you think there is a chance you can screen-record your Android and show me:
the sync screen with 0 changes to be synced
making some crew modifications like you said
then sync again showing that it is downloading the cover, and also that the crew has changed to the standard one?
Here’s how you can make a screen recording on your Android device:
Swipe down twice from the top of your screen.
Tap “Screen record”.
If “Screen record” is not there, you might need to swipe right to find it. If it’s not there, tap “Edit” and drag “Screen record” to your Quick Settings.
Choose what you want to record and tap Start. The recording begins after the countdown.
To stop recording, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the “Screen recorder” notification.
You can find the files in the Photos app in Library > Movies.
You can send me the file(s) via:
There is a bug in the Android version where it seems to sometimes want to upload the same user defined cover “again”.
As for changing cast/crew:
If you only change the “sort name” - the display name remains the same.
The Cloud will try to keep your cast/crew linked to Core based on that first name.
This means you will get the “linked version of the cast/crew member back from Cloud” when syncing.
Causing your change (if you only changed the Sort Name of such a cast/crew), to revert if the item is synced back down.
For now I recommend to not change only the sort name of cast/crew members - and then this sync problem should not happen. We will think about severing the cast/crew link if you change merely the sortname of such a person, or keep it tied with an internal ID. Severing the link with the Core cast/crew member will mean you won’t get cast/crew images on CLZ Cloud/CLZ Web).
In any case that would explain the “change coming back with a linked cast/crew member” and also “the cover uploading again” (which is a bug).
