The parameter is incorrect on opening BC

can’t get past this error- ideas please!
Chris

Please follow the steps below to try and resolve this issue, this process will affect some local settings in your software such as the width of columns, but your database will not be affected.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Click the Windows start icon and type ‘regedit’ into the search box, then press ENTER.

  2. Locate the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Collectorz.com > Book

  3. Select that “Book” folder entry there and delete it!

  4. Download and install Book Collector from your My CLZ page:
    https://my.clz.com

  5. After installing, you will have to unlock the software. Fill in your username/password to unlock the software.

  6. Before actually opening your database, try adding one book to this empty database, just to check if it all works fine!

  7. Now, reopen your database: Click File > Open then locate the database file in order to get things working again.

I know – a belated reply!

The suggested re-install etc. procedure didn’t solve the issue so I have perservered with the column-width problem.

Just now, on switching from my extended display on a second monitor to the laptop ‘display 1’ I provoked the ‘incorrect parameter’ message again.

Could using extended displays be an issue for Book Collector?

Advice please! Chris

Yes, most definitely using 2 monitors can cause problems with Book Collector. We’ve seen it often in the past.

This can happen if you have two or more screens, as the program doesn’t like it to be moved to a different screen if the dpi percentage is different on a 2nd screen. We have this on our bugs list to fix.

The problem should not happen if you always

  • start and open
  • and keep using
  • and then close

the program on 1 and the same screen.

That said, if you use the same DPI on both (or all) screens, it could be that the override DPI checkbox might be checked for your software. If that’s the case, here’s how to uncheck it: Right-click on the executable for your Collectorz program, go to Properties/Compatibility and uncheck the box for “Override high DPI scaling behavior” if it is checked.

“Override high DPI scaling behavior” was already unchecked.
Would really appreciate bug-fix!
Thanks AJ.

I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do here, have you considered moving to Book Connect?

I’m sorry to say that if my suggestions for DPI//just using it on ONE SCREEN doesn’t help that might be the end of the line here.
