The introduction of this feature was all about the benefit for the user.
The “find on eBay” links in the details panel is indeed a new and OPTIONAL feature that we introduced recently.
The details panel for your CLZ Web software now includes automatically generated eBay search links, next to the cover image, that let you search eBay to find listings for that particular item.
These eBay links can be useful for two reasons:
- For the items you own: easily get a feel for that item’s value, by finding its’ Completed/Sold listings on eBay.
- For the items on your wish list: easily find available copies on eBay, for you to purchase.
Of course, this feature is OPTIONAL. To switch it OFF completely:
- open the Settings screen from the menu
- in the Settings screen, look under “eBay search links”
- there use “Show/Hide eBay links” toggle and set it to “Do not show in my CLZ Web”.
This new “eBay links” feature was based on feedback we saw from users of our comic database software and, in lesser numbers, from our game collecting users.
Comic and game collector are using eBay all the time to determine an estimate value of collectibles, when buying or when selling. AND they like to use Ebay to actually buy comics or games they are still missing in their collection.
So we thought it would be great to facilitate that behaviour and introduce automatic ready-made eBay search links, to instantly find either “for sale” items (to buy) or “sold listings” (to determine value).
So spend a short time building these links, with these collectors in mind.
And in the end, we figured we’d roll this out for all five CLZ Web flavors. We had done the investment of development time anyway… and we thought it would be useful for music, movie and book collectors too.
But, apparently, that’s was our big mistake
Big big mistake…
The feedback for the Music edition of CLZ Web was particularly bad, so we have already decided to completely REMOVE the feature there. We may do the same for the Movie and Book editions, not sure yet, as we did see 1 or 2 happy users there.
And yes, we are using eBay partner links, which means we may get commision on possible purchases through that link. We figure, it doesn’t cost users anything and if we can earn enough “free money” for a month team dinner, hey, everybody wins.
But oh boy… we were very wrong there too
It seems some users are really upset by the links being affiliate links and CLZ making a few cents on a possible purchase.
I briefly considered making an extra setting under Settings to optionally remove the affiliate codes from the links. But if we decide to remove the feature completely for the music, movie and book editions, I may not have to bother with that.
Takes me to ebay in US - I am UK based.
There is an option under Settings that lets you select your preferred eBay site.
When i clicked on the link it took me to eBay but says Link not found
That is strange. Which book in your collection was that for?
