Unable to transfer/copy data from musician field

Hello! I’ve been attempting to use the “Transfer field data” tool to copy names of people from the Musician field to the Artist field, but without success. The blue band which normally shows the progress of the transfer process, i.e.

did not appear in this instance, and no changes were made. Is this expected behaviour, perhaps because Musician is a sort of compound field, where you have people linked to a default instrument?

This is indeed a bug, I’ve put it on the board for fixing here.

Can I ask why you’re trying to transfer these? What is the goal?

Thanks @CLZ_AJ. In the meantime, I can continue the process in Music Collector for desktop, (as it seems to work fine there), and then sync to Cloud to effect the change in CLZ Web.

I’m experimenting. I might eventually decide to copy all musicians into the artist field, so all vocalists, groups and instrumentalists are together in one folder view (with musicians also left in their own differentiated field as well, for when I want to search exclusively for musicians). Some might say that the term “artist” is so all-encompassing that you could put just about anyone there.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Make sure you’re.. sure about the experiment. Future albums you add you’d have to do it “again” for those - or just always put them in in both fields of course.

@jayvee59 we’ve just fixed this issue. The musician name will now transfer correctly to artist (it will not bring over the instrument should you’ve filled that in).

Thanks for reporting this, and do let me know if you’re still having issues if you get to try this again!

Thanks AJ and CLZ team for fixing this! I will think carefully before doing these transfers though, as they can’t be reversed if I change my mind.
