Using Collections

Hi All

I wish to have my collection of books and RPG books separate. I am looking at the best way to do it. I can see two options but both have drawbacks.

The first option is to use Collections, however I believe the unique fields, sort and display options are tied to the database and not the collection. This makes having different sorting and / or displayed fields difficult to manage

The second option is separate databases, however I cannot have two databases on my mobile app and this is where I really need it if I am purchasing items and away from from laptop

Is there a solution that is better or that I am missing?

Thanks

(1) Book Collector (Windows) is Deprecated - Legacy. There will be no feature changes and little support. If there are NEW things you want to do, but don’t know how to do them, then you would be well advised to try the Web product instead
(2) unless you are already using multiple databases, then you should avoid them. They are not synced, and are not supported by the other products. See (1)
(3) in my world FRP = Fantasy Role Playing, such as Dungeons and Dragons. These can be treated as normal books, so I don’t understand what your issues are. Please supply more details of what you are trying to do.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the reply and I will look at my products. It is a subscription, so I am not sure what I can change with it but thanks for the advice

As to (3). Its not that I can’t treat them as normal books, its more that I want to have separate sort orders and displayed columns depending on the collection (Books vs RPGs). Perhaps this is also different in the web product

Hope that explains better

Thanks

Nick

You should be able to swap your subscription with no issues.
In the Windows Product you can have Preset Columns and Sort Orders. Right click on a column header and select Columns or Sort Order. You can create as many different setsas you like. The only restriction is that you can only have one set of columns active at any one time per database, so if you manage RPGs as a separate Collection you will need to select the column set that you need for that collection. It is still only a couple of mouse clicks though.
