Using release date and original release date

I have a lot of vinyl where the release date is later than the original release date. indicating that the vinyl is a later edition. I am gradually updating all of the records in the database to have both the Release Date and the Original Release Date. Differentiating those dates is important to indicate for example the age of the record or the genre of the music.
In the Statistics view “Albums by Release Year” the graph favours the Release Date, and ignores the Original Release Date. I would like that graph to indicate more the era of the music (e.g. the amount of 70s and 80s music that I have) than the age of the vinyl. Is that graph switchable to use Original Release Date?
It seems that a nice feature would be for the Original Release Date and Release Date to have some validation between them. For Release Date also populates Original Release Date (but not vice versa).
What do others think?

My apologies for replying… a month later!
I like the idea and have noted it on our ideas list. Good one!

I don’t understand this one, you wish to automatically fill in the original release date with release date, if there is no original release date? (that feels… like a lot).

I think the best bet here would be to have a separate statistic for Original Release Date.

Note that you can also Click the folder button top left and then group by Original Release YEAR. That might give you some fun insights!

In the Statistics screen, the “Albums by Release Year” is driven by the Release Year field, not the Original Release Year field. In my case, where I have a lot of re-issues, this skews the results towards recent years even though the albums were released decades ago. I populate both sets of fields - Release Date and Original Release Date.

It would be nice to have either a switch on that graph between Release Year and Original Release Year, or two graphs.
