Web vs Mobile app, do you use both?

Hey folks,

I have been using Music Collector Desktop for over 20 years, and for the last 10 plus years, I have also been using the Web and Mobile apps. As I am coming up for renewal, I am trying to decide whether I still need the mobile app going forward.

It is a great app, but since the web interface works really well and is easy to use on my phone, I am wondering if having both still makes sense.

Just to clarify, I do think the mobile app is great. I am mostly curious whether others here are using both web and mobile, and if so, what you find the mobile app especially useful for.

I use both the desktop & the mobile. They both work slightly differently, albeit complimenting each other but I tend to use them for different purposes. I certainly won’t be giving up either in the foreseeable future

Two things to consider

(1) If your subscription lapses all your data remains and you can view it as at present. All you lose are the Edit features - Add, Modify, Delete, Sync.

(2) There are monthly as well as annual subscriptions.

So it is easy to answer the question yourself. eg

(a) take out a one month subscription to mobile and let the Web subscription lapse. If everything is fine, then take out a Mobile one year subscription.

(b) If, as I expect, you miss the Web service, you can then take out a full subscription to the Web service and let the mobile subscription lapse. The mobile will still contain a snapshot of your database which you can continue to use. You can then refresh the mobile database by taking out a new one month subscription as necessary.

You will quickly find out if you miss mobile at all.

Mobile provides a great deal of useful additional functionality to the Windows version, but provides little, except Offline use compared with the Web Version.

Thanks @stevej this is my observation as well. Offline use is probably the biggest reason to keep Mobile (given that I have Connect subscription), but in these days, even when I am abroad, I am usually online and always have access to my collection when needed. I thought there must be something else that I missed

I use both mobile and web. Offline use is important for me: I look for local record shops when I travel and sometimes find them in basements or obscure places where I have no cellular service. The mobile app is very convenient then to look up albums to make sure I’m not buying a duplicate, or to check my wishlist.

FWIW, I also find the mobile app easier and faster on my iPad than the web.

I agree - if you need offline access to your collection, the mobile app is the way to go. I don’t have that need so often, so I hardly use the Mobile app. I also use my laptop to update the collection, using the web version.
