I’m finally entering my few issues of Wizard magazine into my database and I notice that the variant number/letter is inconsistent. See the screenshot below. It should either be a letter or a number. I personally will be changing my issues to letters to bring them into line with comic issue variants. But I can certainly see value in keeping /1, /2 etc. as the covers usually say Cover 1 of 3 or Cover 2 of 3.
