CLZ Movies 9 Feature Hilite: better screens for reporting “unrecognized barcodes”

Here it is, the 3rd “CLZ Movies v9 feature hilite” email. Today’s email is about the improvement to the screens for dealing with “unrecognized barcodes”.

BTW: if you missed first two v9 feature hilite emails, you can still read them on the CLZ Club forum here:

Better screens for reporting “unrecognized barcodes”

The Unrecognized Barcode screen is the screen that you get when try to add a movie by scanning a barcode, but… the barcode is not recognized by our Core online movie database.

This screen lets you:

  1. Select your movie by title (assuming the movie itself IS listed in Core)
  2. Select the Format of your edition (4K, Blu-ray, DVD, HD-DVD, LD, etc….)
  3. Then… add the movie to your app anyway, with that barcode and format filled in
  4. And… very important… the screen automatically adds the missing barcode to our Core at the same time!

This screen is super-useful for you (for easily adding the movie anyway) AND essential for us (for improving the barcode recognition of our Core).

So we did a complete re-design from scratch of the “Unrecognized Barcode” screens, to make it super-easy to deal with unrecognized barcodes for both single movies and box sets containing multiple movies.

Dealing with Unrecognized Barcodes for single movies

When you scan an unrecognized barcode for a normal, single movie:

  1. In the first popup, choose “Single Movie”
  2. Then find the movie by title and select it
  3. Finally, indicate the Format of the edition you have (4K, Blu-ray, etc…)

Please take great care to select the correct movie and format. This is important for you, to create a correct entry in your app, but also for us at CLZ, because what you select will be added to Core automatically and instantly!

Dealing with Unrecognized Barcode for multi-movie box sets

When you scan an unrecognized barcode for a box set that contains multiple movies:

  1. In the first popup, choose “Box Set”
  2. Enter the name of the box in the Box Set Title box
  3. Then, one by one, add the movies that are in the box, by using the title search
  4. Finally, indicate the Format of the edition you have (4K, Blu-ray, etc…)

Here too, please take your time to enter the correct information and add the correct set of movies. The information you provide here is not only added to your app, but also to the Core online movie database!

Thank you for your help improving the Core barcode recognition!

Thanks for the update!

Question: what is best practice for adding multi-film sets?

Example: an Eddie Murphy two-pack containing Coming To America and Harlem Nights. Or a 2 disc set called “Martial Arts Mayhem”, with eight movies across those two discs.

@DATADS

So your best bet is to scan the barcode:

  • Open the Add Movies screen and switch to the Barcode tab at the top
  • Scan the barcode of your box set

It should now come up with your box sets, with the two movies, and then you can just add it. I recommend to add as “Box Set with 2 or 8 loose movies” then.

It could be that your barcode is not in our Core database, in which case the system will ask you to “tell us which movies are in your box set”.

Or, if it gives you a “single movie”, and that is wrong, you can post about it here so we can fix it:

Let me know if you have further questions

Thanks CLZ_AJ for the quick response. It makes sense.

What is the case for such entries as 8MM / 8MM 02 (barcode 9317731050930)? It is two films, but the listing found via the barcode scan is not set up as a box set. I have found many barcode scanned multi film sets come up like this, with the only identifying data being text in the “plot” field that states “This collection contains:” and then a checklist of the films. These are entered as single films in core.

Should these be changed to reflect the loose film method?

9317731050930 is marked “as a box set” in our online database. So that is all good.

I understand you have it as “one entry” with "“collection contains” in the plot field. Meaning you added it in the past as one single entry.

I recommend:
Try scanning it today in the new CLZ Movies version, and when adding make sure to select to “add it as box set with 2 loose movies” as the prompt asks you.

(and remove your old version you have in your app)

Right, thanks for all the info! I’m learning more of how you have it set up, and it is making heaps of sense.

I do have some multi packs I’ve scanned, and only one film appeared as the result for the barcode. I’ll dig these up and use the link you’ve provided to advise of the issue to core.
