DVDProfiler import missing Audio and sub-tracks

Hello. After importing 2 month ago a couple of thousand Movies (all owned DVD/Bluray and carefully maintained Data), it seems that 50% are now missing Audio and Subtitle information (all blank). A quick check seems to confirm that for those movies those Track Informations are also missing in Core. Did my XML import not consider my Data but tried to use (absent) core information?

It could be that that data just isn’t imported. Did you check your XML, is the data in there?

Could you perhaps send me the XML file so we can check it out? Maybe we just have to change/fix the import.

You can send me the file(s) via:

Please mention this topic in the comment, or my name, and I will look into this early next week with a colleague!

And, did you already edit/modify a lot of movies? Add a lot of movies already?

Thank you, I got the file now and will look into it early next week with a colleague.

I transfered you a Profiler XML containing my main movie collection. I used the same file today to create a new collection (beside all the existing collections that I can no longer delete because I performed a huge amount of data optimisation/reordering/relabeling since I migrated from DVD Profiler). So I can no longer use the original Profiler XML data to correct my situation. I will have to do it manually. It would be so great If you could use my file to update your missing CORE data so that I could simply update later on via Core update.

Forgot to write that I did import this file today (and will delet it afterwards) just to confirm that the import of Audio and Subtitle Tracks does not work as expected. Here are some movies you can use to verify the XML Import:

  • 4045167006812 , title: 007 - Die Another Day
  • 888430000797, title: 3 Days to Kill

Hm, so you’d like for us to use your DVD Profiler file to update our Core data?
(and probably also for us to fix the import, but that that is not something you will use?)

I’m looking for a way to use existing data to update the missing data in my collection without the need to enter it manually. I already spend several weeks to upload my original front and back covers. But if there is no alternative I will have to type it manually.

Alright, we’ll see what we can do, maybe we can indeed use your data and link it to our barcodes in Core! (and then you can update your entries that way). I’ll be in touch!

Thank you for your effort. Would it be possible to indicate where you get the Audio track info for your Core movie Data. Maybe I could then tap into the same (online) source to update my missing data.

I pushed my investigation a little further: it looks like during the import only Core Data was used for Audio and Subtitles and that my DVD Profiler XML Data was ignored for those 2 fields. I’m also astonished that so many Core data movies don’t have Audio and Subtitle Info. Which brings me back to my question: where is Core Data coming from with regard to Audio and Subtitle Info?

We have checked our DVD Profiler import code and it looks like it did not import audio tracks and subtitles at all. We will change the tool to make it import those too.

It’s sad to hear you already made so many changes after importing, which means you cannot use our fixed import :frowning:

I am afraid that using your XML file to update our Core would take too much custom programming. Not worth our while for just 4 thousand releases.

where is Core Data coming from with regard to Audio and Subtitle Info?

All user submitted data.

Ok. Just to fully understand your Core Data: What is the meaning of the field “Language” in the Main Data and does it have an influence on other Data (like in DVD Profiler, the couple UPC&Country determined all the rest of the movie profile)?

Language on movie level is the main language (spoken) in the movie.

It has no influence on which data you’re getting from Core, that is actually all linked through an internal movie and/or media id.

Thank you for the clarification. An I suppose then that the field “Country” in the Main section refers to the country where the film was (mainly) produced. Is there a field which indicates the country where this version of the DVD/Bluray was released? (In my case that would be European countries like UK/France/Germany/Switzerland/NL etc…)

Indeed

Is there a field which indicates the country where this version of the DVD/Bluray was released? (In my case that would be European countries like UK/France/Germany/Switzerland/NL etc…)

CLZ Movies does not have a field for that, no.

You could repurpose the country field for it if you find it important to register that information (although I don’t think I would do that, might become confusing). Or use the Tags field (which you can foldergroup on).
Or write it in notes (which you can not foldergroup on).

Again thank you. The field “Language” contains mainly garbage (meaning that Country and Language are mostly not in synch), As its is for me quite important to know in which country the disc version was released, I will repurpose the field "Language " to indicate the country where the disc was sold.

Can you give me an example? I don’t follow. A movie could be made in France, and the main spoken language could be English, right?

As its is for me quite important to know in which country the disc version was released,

Purely out of interest, why is this important for you? What do you use this data for?

I’m perplexed: I tried now to find out what data was in Core with regards to fields (Country/Language) (for serveral of my entries by simulating an Update to Core): the local Country values seems to be ok, but for the Language field, the data in Core is much more accurate than the one contained in my local Language fields. Were these values contained in my local “Language” fields imported with the XML Profiler - and if so, which Profiler field do you use?

The country in which the films was released gives a very strong indication for the audio and subtitle tracks contained withe the disc. And I sometimes tend to loan my discs to people who for instance don’t speak english or french or german. So I rely on the country version of the disc to show them a selection of films first.

I don’t know if this workaround is ok for you, but I use the Region field to store the data of which Country a disc is from. It is a field thar can contain multiple values and as such you can store the correct technical data (Reg A, Reg B and so on) along with the Country (UK, US, Sweden or whichever country you want).

 That could do the trick. I tried it on a sample and its looks quite convenient to use. The only backdraw would be that if you want to contribute/share and upload to Core, you need to have “clean” Data. I therefor try to stick to the standard as long as possible. I think I will try to add yet another Tag as suggested by CLZ_AJ
