Is there an exact click process that can make this happen for you? Or is it happening just randomly right now?
You can try doing the steps below, and see if the problem stops:
Please follow the steps below to try and resolve this issue, this process will affect some local settings in your software such as the width of columns, but your database will not be affected.
Here’s what to do:
Click the Windows start icon and type ‘regedit’ into the search box, then press ENTER.
Locate the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Collectorz.com > Comic
Select that “Comic” folder entry there and delete it!
Download and install Comic Collector from your My CLZ page:
https://my.clz.com
After installing, you will have to unlock the software. Fill in your username/password to unlock the software.
Before actually opening your database, try adding one comic to this empty database, just to check if it all works fine!
Now, reopen your database: Click File > Open then locate the database file in order to get things working again.
I did all the steps above and I am still getting the error message. However, this time I got an additional error message stating that I do not have enough diskspace, but I have 230 GB available, so that’s not likely the problem and the program has no problem saving.
As far as what action triggers the error message, I can only say that it happens after making an edit to comic and then saving. The error message always occurs after saving and closing the edit screen. I can’t really tell if editing certain fields triggers the error as I’ve seen it happen after editing characters, creators, details/contents and age.
Can you let me know if step 6 worked for you or also produced the error message?
If you didn’t do step 6 you have to perform all steps again and let me know please.
As for “disk” error, what is the exact error message?
Yes, I performed that step and it didn’t trigger the error. I also added a few more comics to the blank database and that didn’t trigger the error either.
The error only seems to happen after editing a comic, not adding them to the database and there doesn’t seem to be a particular field or action that causes the error. It just occurs randomly after editing a handful of comics. Sometimes I edit a few comics and the error appears and sometimes I can edit a dozen comics before the error appears.
It kinda sounds like a rights issue to be honest, but it’s hard to say without the actual error message, do you have it for me?
Or make a vide?
You can record your screen via this website:
You can send me the file(s) via:
These are the error messages I get after editing a comic. It’s totally random as I can edit several comics without any problems, then I make another edit, and the error messages occur. I used the program for over two hours before getting the error message today, so it’s difficult to record a video of it happening because I never know when it will occur.
I’m not sure what to try anymore. I can’t reproduce it on my side, it must be some kind of rights issue or some specific click action.
Is it an option you would consider moving to CLZ Comics Web?
I won’t consider moving to CLZ web unless the Details/Contents section from desktop is added to the web version. I have a lot of information saved there and I don’t want to lose it.
I will just deal with error, I guess.
Here’s another thing you could try: It’s our full reinstall instructions, it might do something:
%LOCALAPPDATA%
And press ENTER. Your Local AppData folder should now open.
Go to the “Collectorz.com” folder
Rename “Comic Collector” to “Comic Collector 2”
Now go to your Program Files folder (could have (x86) in the foldername)
Go to the “Collectorz.com” folder
Rename “Comic Collector” to “Comic Collector 2”
Now clear the registry of our registry keys and then reinstall. You have to do this
Click the Windows start icon and type ‘regedit’ into the search box, then press ENTER.
Locate the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Collectorz.com > Comic
Delete the entire Comic folder and it’s contents.
Download and install Comic Collector from your My CLZ page:
After installing, you will have to unlock the software. Fill in your username/password to unlock the software.
If the program asks you to sync: do not sync.
Before actually opening your database, try adding one comic to this empty database, just to check if it all works fine!
You might want to add more, play around/edit for like 30 minutes see if the error doesn’t happen.
Now, reopen your database: Click File > Open then locate the database file in order to get things working again.
I am having similar problems and have tried all of the steps listed above to no result. I have the following version of Windows if that helps-
Collector will OPEN, but I get no data applied and any time I try to click on anything, I get Error Messages like these-
I’m not keen on going to the web version because I like to have my data on my computer so I can access it when I want and not be constrained to ‘when the servers are working’ (I detest the idea of storing everything to ‘the Cloud’ for ‘safety’ (i.e. data-mining) for similar reasons.).
Any new ideas on what’s going on?
For what it’s worth. I ended up removing several GBs of data from my hard drive and I don’t believe I had this error message since. Maybe it’s a hard drive space issue or there was an offending file in those I removed or maybe it’s all coincidence, but I haven’t had this issue since I did that.
Like what? Delete all the cover images and redownload? Does look like I’ve got doubles of a lotof covers. I’ve got autosaved copies of my collection running all the way back to 2004 I’m pretty sure I don’t need(Not even sure how I got them in the first place tbh).
I mean, I’m not hurting for space. I’ve got 200gb free of 450gb atm. But if that’s something I should look into.
No…don’t delete the cover images. I was nearing full capacity on my hard drive so I deleted all the files I didn’t need anymore to free up space.
You seem to be fine on hard disk space, so now I’m wondering if I deleted a file that was somehow interfering with CLZ. I don’t know though because all the files I deleted weren’t related to CLZ that I know of.
I’m wondering what the ‘other process’ is that’s using my backups.xml file and if it’s in any way related to datamining or AI bullshit.
“Cannot create file” is a rights problem.
And please, please just create your own topic if you have your own error. This is different than what @pkuneman had, and the suggestion that he just “removed files” and then “maybe you should try that” scares me a lot. But I’m happy you didn’t just try that.
So: “cannot create file” is a problem with rights. It has nothing to do with “datamining” or “AI bullshit” (and I have to say I honestly don’t understand where this is coming from?)
The process thing is just weird wording from Windows I think. Or maybe it’s Bill Gates secretly checking your backups.xml which contains information about your backups of your comic data in Comic Collector (nothing else )
Lastly it could be like OneDrive, GoogleDrive, Dropbox that is taking that file hostage. Perhaps it’s in that corner. If you use one of those, pause them, see if it fixes it.
If you don’t use those, continue:
So the easiest way to try and get this working is to right click the program shortcut, and then use “Run as Administrator”
First thing to try:
Sounds like the program doesn’t get enough rights from Windows to open your browser. A solution could be to install as an Admin AND open the program as an admin.
Find your version, download it to your desktop.
Right click on the downloaded installer, and select ‘Run as Administrator’
This will install the program with Administrative rights
Now launch the program with admin rights (right click > run as administrator)
Second thing to try:
Now, if the above does not help, it could be that your computer, or a third party firewall or safety program is blocking writing to folders. In that case you can try this as well:
Open the Virus & threat settings by searching the Start Menu for “Virus & threat protection”
Click “Manage Ransomware protection”.
Set the switch for Controlled folder access to Off
(or use “Allow an app through Controlled folder access” and add our program!)
And… well… maybe think about moving to CLZ Comics Web, to get out of the Windows installable software game.
I’ll give this a go when I have the chance.

is COMPLETELY in reference to Windows/Google and others using programs LIKE OneDrive and GoogleDrive,Dropbox etc. to datamine and train AIs, NOT CLZ. Sorry for not making that clear.
Ah okay alright let me know how you go, and feel free to shoot in a ticket through help.clz.com referencing this topic if you need further and personal help. These in depth tickets about Windows stuff might just be easier via email (where if need be we could even run a “Teamviewer” session if you really can’t get it to work).
