Switching From Comic Collector Live

Hi there! First post, I’m a newbie :). I’ve been using Comic Collector Live for over 15 years but they are closing down on 1/31/25. They recommended you guys so here I am! I was told someone named Alwin can assist with importing data from CCL into this database. Does anyone know if Alwin peruses this board?

Also: as a newbie, can someone tell me the advantages of the Mobile vs. Website apps, and/or if it makes sense to just do both. Also, what is the desktop application and how does it compare? Any help will be appreciated!

Hi there, welcome to CLZ!

We are currently working on a dedicated import tool for CCL exports.
Could you export your data from CCL to CSV, then send me the file?

You can send me the file(s) via:

We will then use your file and one from another user to create the import tool.
Should not take too long.

Will let you know when done.

Thank you @CLZ_Alwin ! I am exporting the data from CCL now, it says it should take up to 24 hours. Once complete, I’ll send you the file.

Can you tell me more about the desktop software you guys offer vs. the web based / app approach? What is the usual recommendation? I can see doing both the web/app for convenience, but are there features in one that isn’t in the other?

24 hours, that is quite long  we’ll be waiting for your files!

As for your question about “web based” and “app” approach:

  • For use on your phone and tablet, there is our CLZ mobile app, available for iOS and Android.
The CLZ mobile app has a built-in barcode scanner for adding items, a nice native app-like user interface and stores data locally, on your device, so you can also view and edit your data while offline.

  • For use on your computer, there is the CLZ Web web-based software
CLZ Web is web-based, basically a website that you log into with your web-browser, with your data and images stored in our CLZ Cloud system. It is super easy to use and easy to manage. We handle everything for you, like software updates, daily backups, etc…
And since CLZ Web is just a website that you login to, you never have problems with firewalls, security software, etc…

The above two are all you need, CLZ on your mobile device(s), CLZ Web on your computer(s).

You could of course just start with CLZ Comics Web on your computer, use it for a while, and later add the mobile app!

We do not sell or develop installable “Windows” software anymore though.

Thank you very much for the information @CLZ_AJ ! Yeah I don’t know why the export from CCL takes so long. It should be done when I get home tonight and then I’ll send it to you!

Crazily - it’s still not done. I think something’s wrong. I pinged their guy so hopefully he can get back with me tomorrow and we can figure this out.

Got it! I’ll send to you shortly.

I’ll officially sign up tonight after work so there will be something to import into :). Thanks for the help!

I’m officially signed up! Please let me know when everything’s imported so I can check it out. Thanks so much!

@tmadoc we have the file, thank you. We’re still working on that import tool and I will reply back here when we’re done (I hope to get something live today).

Thank you for signing up!

@tmadoc
Thanks for your patience!

We’ve just completed the new import tool for CCL databases.

You can import your existing Comic Collector Live database with the special “Import from Comic Collector Live” tool in CLZ Comics Web.

  1. Log in/Start a trial for CLZ Comics Web: Login to Comic Connect
  2. Click the menu button (top left) then go to Import/Export > Import Data
  3. Choose “Import your Comic Collector Live” and then upload your CSV and import it.

After importing, you have to link your comics to the comics in Core (CLZs comic database).
To do that go to Menu > Import/Export > Link Comics and follow the instructions there.

Can you let me know how that works out for you? Let me know (and check if all the fields you need are also imported please!!)

Thank you @CLZ_AJ ! I really appreciate the help. I’ll try to work on this sometime this weekend and will let you know the results!

I actually went ahead and imported and have begun the linking process. Question: how do I handle situations like this: for Action Comics, CCL viewed “Volume 1” as issues 1-904 and then 957-Present. CLZ (apparently) views 957-Present as Volume 3. All the Volume 1 issues match fine of course, but 957-Present are also showing on the CCL side for Volume 1 with no match. Should I click “Apply 412” [which includes the 957-Present issues] or do something else? I assume Vols 2 and 3 show up somewhere further down on the list [there are hundreds of titles and they aren’t alphabetical so it’s hard to verify].

Also - is there an FAQ that covers some of these types of questions? Thanks so much!

Yeah similar things with other titles - Fantastic Four, Amazing Spider-Man, etc. Man these comic companies and their renumbering lol! They’re messing us up! Anyway, let me know when you have time what your thoughts are on how to proceed.

Well, looks like I accidently stumbled across the solution :). Apparently if I go ahead and apply the ones that do link, it gives me a new entry with the remaining issues which I can then link to another volume! Problem solved :).

Great, sounds like you’re well on your way

I have no FAQ on linking I’m afraid, but feel free to post here when you have more questions.

Thank you! It is going well, still working through linking. I do have one other question along similar lines. I notice my comics show up with the CCL title that was imported in rather than the one used by CLZ - for example, Amazing Spider-Man (1963) vs. Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 1. When I add new issues in CLZ, will it show up as Vol. 1 vs. (1963)? (In other words, as if it were two separate titles)? If so, would this be a good candidate for a mass edit - where I edit all my imports to match the CLZ title?

Just tried adding an Amazing Spider-Man I recently bought and it showed up correctly in the CCL-defined name. I really like the details that CLZ added when adding an entry and wish they were in my imported entries. Trying to decide if I should clear my database and start over, just using the CCL export and adding each title in one-by-one. (Yes it would take forever, but so is this linking, haha!) Open to suggestions.

I may make this a separate topic - but I just noticed the menu item “Add/Update From Core Settings” which looks interesting. If I understand it right, it will replace all my comics’ metadata with core settings in each field (unless I deselect one), which is actually what I want. Am I understanding this right? I couldn’t find it referenced in the Help pages so not sure.

Just experimented on one title, now trying on all titles! I think this will get me up to date.
